Shun defiant behaviours, social vices, Ondo Varsity VC urges new students

Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, Vice-Chancellor, Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Ondo State, has urged newly-admitted students to shun deviant behaviours and social vices which can affect their educational pursuit.

Ologunorisa gave the warning during the 13th matriculation ceremony of the institution in Okitipupa on Friday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 1,600 students were admitted for the 2023/2024 academic session into the university’s six schools out of the 2,400 who applied.

Ologunorisa, while congratulating the students, said that the institution had zero tolerance for deviant beviours and other social vices like exam malpractices, cultism, indecent dressing and hooliganism.

He urged the students to concentrate on their studies, partake in all class work and assignments, and ensure that they abide by all the institution’s rules and regulations for them to have a fruitful stay on campus.

Ologunorisa, who noted that the matriculation was the second since his assumption of office two years ago, said that his vision was to build a world-class university, which would be bi-lingual, entrepreneurial and ICT driven.

“My vision is also to produce globally-competitive graduates with 21st century skills and knowledge to make them globally acceptable in this age of Fourth Industrial Revolution.

“This institution has continued to focus on its pursuit of excellence in teaching, cutting-edge research and service to society.

“I congratulate you on your success and matriculation because out of 2,400 candidates who sought admission, we only admitted 1,600.
“I, therefore, implore you to work with us on our vision for this institution.

“It is important that the journey from now till convocation is successful.

“You need to concentrate on your studies and do all assignments, shunning all deviant behaviours and social vices which might expose you to danger as this institution has zero tolerance for deviant behaviours and other social vices,” he said.

The vice-chancellor appreciated the late Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for his support which gave the university the opportunity to benefit from tap into the Tertiary Education Trust Fund’s interventions and other interventions.

He also thanked the Visitor to the university, Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for his interest and commitment to taking the institution to greater heights. (NAN).
